When Faith Shows Up Through Others

By

There are seasons in life when you don’t have the strength to get to Jesus on your own.

Not because you don’t want to—but because life has worn you down so deeply that even hope feels heavy.

That’s what makes the story in Mark 2:1–12 so powerful.

A man is paralyzed, unable to move, unable to reach Jesus on his own. But he has friends—real friends. And when they hear that Jesus is in the house, they don’t leave him behind. They don’t tell him to “try harder” or “you are the only one that can change your circumstances.” They carry him.

When the crowd blocks the door, they don’t give up. They climb to the roof, tear it open, and lower their friend down in front of Jesus.

And that moment changes everything.

There are times in life when your faith is tired. Your prayers feel weak. Your mind is overwhelmed. Your body and spirit feel like they are barely holding on.

And in those moments, you need more than motivation—you need people who will carry you.

Not people who judge your condition. Not people who talk about you from a distance. Not people who watch you struggle from the crowd.

But people who refuse to leave you where you are.

The friends in this story didn’t just sympathize with the man—they acted. They lifted weight that wasn’t theirs. They pressed through obstacles. They risked inconvenience, embarrassment, and effort because they believed that getting their friend to Jesus was worth everything.

True friends don’t just say, “I’m praying for you.”
They become the strength you don’t have.

They show up when you can’t.
They speak hope when you can’t find words.
They carry you when you cannot walk.

And sometimes, they are the reason you make it into the presence of Jesus when you otherwise wouldn’t have gotten there.

One of the most beautiful parts of this story is that Jesus responds not only to the faith of the man, but to the faith of the friends who brought him.

The Bible says that when Jesus saw their faith—not just his—He responded with healing.

That means something profound: sometimes God moves in your life because someone else refused to give up on you.

There are moments when your breakthrough is connected to someone else’s persistence.
