onward and beyond

Moving forward feels like dragging my feet through mud, forcing myself to take one more step when everything inside me wants to run the other way. What I’m learning, though, is that growth isn’t usually found in giant leaps. It’s found in the daily decision to keep moving.

Every morning I wake up with a choice.

I can choose to stay stuck in old habits, old thinking, old wounds, and old fears. Or I can choose to do the things that move me forward. Not because I feel like it. Not because it’s easy. But because I know the life God is calling me to requires something from me—effort, perseverance, and obedience.

No one accidentally becomes healthier. No one accidentally becomes emotionally mature. No one accidentally becomes more like Christ.

Those things happen one choice at a time.

It’s choosing to get out of bed when depression tells me to stay there.

It’s choosing to pray when I don’t feel spiritual.

It’s choosing to read God’s Word when my mind is distracted.

It’s choosing to take responsibility for my actions instead of blaming others.

It’s choosing to be honest, even when honesty is uncomfortable.

It’s choosing to take care of my body, my mind, and my soul because they all belong to God.

I wish transformation happened overnight. I wish God would simply remove every flaw, heal every wound, and instantly make me the person He created me to be. But that not the case.

Instead, God seems to work through the daily choices.

The small choices.

The hidden choices.

The choices nobody applauds.

The choices that build character when no one is watching.

I’m learning that moving forward isn’t just about improving my own life. It’s about learning to see other people. It’s about looking beyond my own struggles long enough to notice someone else’s pain. It’s about choosing kindness when I could choose bitterness. Choosing grace when I want to be right. Choosing forgiveness when holding onto resentment feels easier.

Jesus, give me strength and wisdom to take steps that move me forward. I pray that you honor the effort and bless each choice that I make in the right direction. When I take a wrong turn, help me to recognize it, and turn quickly. Light my path. Give me my daily manna. Lead me. Guide me. and Direct me. In Your Holy Name I pray. Amen
